On March 18, 2004 a request was submitted to the Historic Chicago Bungalow Association (HCBA) that North Mayfair be considered for historic status. The HCBA mapped out an area that met their standard for historic designation within North Mayfair . Researching original building permits at the Daley Library University of Illinois Circle Campus for over seven hundred homes, photographing them and obtaining 1930 census records from the Newberry Library a sixty page nomination containing the history of North Mayfair and the listing of homes in the designated area was ready, On December 1, 2005 the nomination was presented to the Commission on Chicago Landmarks. It was accepted as presented. On December 9, 2005 it was presented to the Illinois Preservation Agency in Springfield . Again it was accepted as presented. It was then forwarded to Washington D.C. On February 10, 2006 we were informed by the Department of Interior-National Park Service that North Mayfair Historic Bungalow District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The research and nomination writing was all done by neighborhood volunteers working with the HCBA and Alderman Laurino's office. Bungalows not within the Historic District can apply to the HCBA for certification as a Historic Chicago Bungalow. |

The current Gompers Park playground is over 15 years old, in poor condition, a state of deterioration, and is not built to handle the large population of children that is served by this busy, extensive park. Gompers Park is a unique, urban resource with a remarkably wide range of amenities and facilities, and requires a playground that can better serve the needs of the immediate community and entire city of Chicago.
