North Branch Trail Southern Extension Ribbon Cutting.


The Forest Preserves of Cook County is celebrating the completion of the 3-mile southern extension of the North Branch Trail which now begins at Irene C. Hernandez Picnic Grove within LaBagh Woods at Foster Avenue and Kostner Avenue in Chicago.The extension provides better access to more city of Chicago residents and adds mileage to the North Branch trail which meanders more than 20 miles north to Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe.Visitors and residents of nearly ten communities have access to the trail for running, biking and walking and for exploring all that is wild and wonderful in the Forest Preserves of Cook County.Also marking this occasion will be the launch of the Forest Preserves first-ever trail challenge, Postcards from the North Branch Trail. Through October 15, trail users are encouraged to step into 6 oversized postcards located along the trail and post a photo Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #NBTpostcard.Those who participate will be randomly selected to win Forest Preserves prizes, passes and swag throughout the challenge.Please RSVP to: Stacina Stagner at Stacina.Stagner@cookcountyil.gov
